Tips on How to Save Gas

With prices of gas going to the roof, it is time for us to stop and try figure out ways for us to save on gas.

Obviously the first thing to do is to cut down and save on gas usage by Driving Less.

This can be achieved many ways that difer from person to person. Among the ways to save on gas are

a) Live closer to work;
b) carpool to work;
c) use bicycle;
d) walk for short distances;
e) take public transport

Other ways to save gas include:


Park and ride

If it is not convenient to simply take public transport or carpool, make it a combination of Park and ride. Use your bicycle and park at a point where it is convenient to carpool or to take public transit.

Clean junk from your car trunk or unused roof racks

The additional weight you carry in your vehicle takes energy to move it around. Removing unnecessary stuff from your car helps to save gas. Removing roof racks will reduce aerodynamic drag, resulting in better fuel economy and save on gas.

Attend a driving clinic or forum

Fuel efficient driving techniques are discussed by experienced members and can help save gas.

Be an efficient driver or let the most efficient drive take the wheel

Let the most efficient driver drive and learn from his/her wisdom.

Check tire inflation

Make sure that your tire pressures are, at minimum, set to manufacturer specifications. The higher the pressure, the less rolling resistance. Remember that pressure is affected by temperature.

Track your fuel consumption

One of the first steps in improving efficiency is tracking fuel consumption. Get in the habit of recording receipts and distance travelled and monitor fuel economy.
